Beach posts Story trail
There are beach poles on the beach and in the dunes of Ameland. Thick wooden poles, black with a red or white head, with bands and numbers. They once had a function in beach measurements, but since this has been taken over by modern technology, many beach poles along the Dutch coast have been removed. One special thing about Ameland is that many of them have remained standing. They have now become landmarks of important events. During a walk on the beach, the Beach Poles Story Path reflects on interesting, fun, nice and dramatic histories. We start on the viewing platform at the South West beach entrance near Hollum where the historic Ameland horse rescue boat is regularly demonstrated. We finish at the Pancake House underneath the lighthouse. The Beach pole story path is walk of about an hour and a half.
