Locatievoorstelling Oorlogstranen op Ameland incl. nagesprek met Auke Zeldenrust
In the context of the commemoration of 80 years of freedom, director Job de Roo is creating a unique location performance about the stories of guests of De Terrorist, which writer Auke Zeldenrust has collected in the new book Oorlogstranen op Ameland (War Tears on Ameland). The book will be published on April 14, 2025. Around the commemoration of the liberation of Ameland on June 3, Stichting Wolf will present this performance in collaboration with the Municipality of Ameland, near the place where these stories took place. The performance will be performed near Paal 13 from Monday June 2 to Saturday June 7. On Friday June 6 and Saturday June 7, there will also be an afternoon performance (starting at 2:00 PM). For the current schedule, see the Stichting Wolf website. Islanders can register as an ensemble actor or volunteer (see website). The performance follows three women who meet in the holiday home De Terrorist (this name was used by the occupier for resistance fighters). This nickname now proudly adorns the wooden shelter, which was a German army barracks during the Second World War. Between 1946 and 1953, De Terrorist offered relief to hundreds of traumatized people, mainly women and children. Nowadays, the barracks have a new location and are used as group accommodation. The performance tells about a world full of hidden stories, suppressed emotions and the daily routine that serves as a shelter for personal tragedies. The three women keep it together, but as soon as night falls, memories of the war become inevitable. Here, in the relative peace, people rebuild their lives after the war, but the scars of everyone's past never completely disappear. The guests of De Terrorist feel it every day. Only late at night, when the children are in bed, do tears of war flow. After each performance, there is a discussion with book writer Auke Zeldenrust, who collected the many stories on which the performance is based. He shares anecdotes and stories from the war and the period that followed. The focus is on various islanders and Frisians, who in their own way contributed to the recovery of the mental health of post-war society. Zeldenrust has personally worked with descendants of guests of De Terrorist, who were guests there as children. The performance is created in collaboration with the Municipality of Ameland and VVV Ameland. Some comments before you travel to the performance location at Paal 13: By visiting the performance, the audience indicates that they have taken note of the following advice and house rules. The performance takes place outside on the beach. Despite nice weather, it can get chilly. Therefore, wear clothing in layers, so that you can put something on when it is chilly and take something off when it is warm. Apply sufficient sun protection in bright sunshine. You are allowed to bring your own drinking water. Please leave the stands clean: the performance takes place in a vulnerable nature reserve. Together we keep Ameland clean. Avoid using recording equipment or cameras during the performance, as this can hinder the players and the audience. The performance tickets are not assigned. We can therefore not always guarantee that you and your entire group will be seated together. If necessary, come early, so there is enough space. Always follow the instructions of our audience guides, especially in the event of calamities or evacuation. During busy and sold-out performances, we may ask you to take a different seat (for example, in connection with seating audiences who have difficulty walking). It is not permitted to use parasols or umbrellas during the performance. Use ponchos or rain gear. Pay close attention to your valuables, bicycle keys and luggage. Turn off your phone or put it on silent during the performance. Smoking, vaping and drug use are prohibited at the performance location. We may deny access to the performance location to audiences who visibly cause a nuisance and/or appear to be under the influence.
