Theatervoorstelling Het oog van Soekenine
Trijntje Tromp, better known as Soekenine, was born in Hollum in 1823 wearing a caul, a sign that she could see the future. She predicted disaster three times, but was unable to prevent it. In "The Eye of Soekenine," Trijntje leaves her grave at the church. As the namesake of a new tunnel that will connect Ameland to the mainland, she faces another great adventure. For some entrepreneurs, the tunnel represents an opportunity to further exploit the island and expand tourism. But Soekenine, who can see the future, foresees only disaster in this connection. Together with the children of Ameland, she takes action and manages to thwart the laying of the foundation stone. The result is a performance about vision, resistance, and the power of the future. The performance will be performed partly in the Ameland dialect.
